What is it?
  • A long-term mental disorder of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behavior.
  • Schizophrenia means "split mind" but NOT split personality.

  • When diagnosed with disorders sometimes hear voices
  • Most people don't make sense when they talk.
  • People diagnosed with this may sit quietly and still for hours.

What causes Schizophrenia?
  • Environment
  • Substance miss use
  • Prenatal

What are the symptoms?
  • Hallucinations
    • When you see, hear, smell, touch with reality becomes hardly noticeable.
      • voices are unrecognizable by their own thoughts.
  • Delusions

    • Delusions are bizarre.
      • ex: people on TV directing special messages or people are trying to harass, spying, and trying to harm the patient.
  • Movement
    • Agitated body movements with repetition.
      • extreme: catatonia- no response and movement with others.
  • Thought Disorder
    • Trouble organizing thoughts, and hard to understand.
    • The person might speak in the middle of a thought with meaningless words.
  • Lack of speech and motivation.
  • Inhibition of facial features.
What are the treatments?
  • Mood stabilizers and Anti depressants prescribed by a doctor.
  • Psychotherapy.

  • Self help groups.
Is it genetic?
  • No, it is believed to be cause by a bunch of environmental factors.

  • Schizophrenia is one of the most psychology.
  • A lot of our knowledge or information we know is based off of movies we see.
  • Sometimes they are called "the crazy people".
